Two deadbolts, one family name, and specification sheets that match line for line — until three details separate them. Reading those details in the right order is the fastest route through a DS01 DS05 deadbolt comparison.
The differences are door materials, rear panel dimensions and weight. Everything else — credential capacity, unlock methods, battery, voice prompts, platform versions — is shared. This is that close reading, arranged by consequence.
Door fit: where the two models part ways
Both deadbolts fit doors 35–55 mm thick and document lock tongue options of 60 and 70 mm. The first real difference is material. DS01 is documented for wood, metal and plastic doors; DS05 is documented for wood and metal.
That single line settles many catalog decisions. A retrofit program that touches plastic doors needs DS01 in the list. A project working only in wood and metal can choose on other grounds. Before either order ships, the door preparation should be checked against the installation drawings in the product documentation — standard North-American preparations are supported, and the drawings are the authority. We walked through the wider check in what makes a door compatible with a smart lock.
The rear panel: millimeters that decide a retrofit
Both models share a documented front panel of 68 × 140 mm. The rear panel is where they differ: DS01 documents 65 × 136 mm, DS05 documents 65 × 140 mm. Four millimeters of height sounds negligible until a door has a narrow stile, an existing handle position or a frame that crowds the indoor side.
The practical rule for retrofits is to measure the existing footprint on the door before ordering, including the handle and any previous lock’s shadow. On a fresh door, both panels are workable; on a door that has hosted hardware before, the drawing decides. Keep the panel dimensions next to the thickness range on the same measurement sheet.
Weight: 0.91 kg versus 0.83 kg
The difference continues on the scale. DS01 documents a unit weight of 0.91 kg; DS05 documents 0.83 kg. On a door, that difference is felt mostly by the installer and the hinge; in a carton, it is felt by the freight calculator. DS01 master cartons ship 20 pcs at 18.4 kg; DS05 cartons ship 20 pcs at 17.0 kg. The color box is common to both at 225 × 162 × 85 mm.
For a distributor, the weight line matters twice — once at the door and once in the freight math. Neither model is heavy by deadbolt standards, but a container holding both will have two different carton weights to plan against, and the receiving team checks them the same way: carton against documentation.

What both models share
- Material and credentials: aerospace aluminum alloy; fingerprint, password, IC card and mechanical key entry, with documented capacity for 100 fingerprints, 100 passwords and 100 IC cards.
- Power and prompts: 6 V from four AA alkaline batteries; voice prompts in Chinese, English, Spanish and Portuguese.
- Versions: standalone, Tuya (Bluetooth/Wi-Fi) and Tongtong, with an optional door sensor.
- Positioning: residential and light-commercial entry points — single-family and multi-family front doors, apartment and rental retrofits, offices and meeting rooms.
Because the credential model and the platform choices are identical, a project can run both models without running two systems. Residents, installers and administrators see the same behavior; only the door’s material and rear footprint change.
The decision path for a project
Six checks, in order
- Door material. Plastic in scope? The line narrows to DS01.
- Thickness. Both models document 35–55 mm — outside that window, stop and consult the documentation.
- Existing preparation. Confirm the door’s prep and the 60/70 mm tongue option against the installation drawings.
- Rear panel footprint. Measure the indoor face; compare 65 × 136 mm and 65 × 140 mm against the available space.
- Platform version. Standalone, Tuya or Tongtong is an order-time decision on both models.
- Logistics. Mixed cartons carry two weights and two carton models — useful to know before consolidation.
Ordering both in one project
Mixed projects are common: a residential block with wood entry doors and plastic utility doors, or a hotel refurbishment where corridor doors and back-of-house doors differ. Because DS01 and DS05 share the credential architecture, splitting the order does not split the system. One access register, one installation routine, two fitting lists.
Installers who want the setup sequence for either model — tools, templating, and the checks that prevent repeat visits — can follow the installation preparation walkthrough. The installation drawings shipped with the product documentation remain the authoritative reference for each door.

The questions we get most
Can DS05 be installed on a plastic door?
The DS05 document range is wood and metal; plastic is not part of it. If plastic doors are in the project, DS01 covers wood, metal and plastic. Verify the door’s preparation and dimensions against the installation drawings before committing the order either way.
Do the two models hold the same number of users?
Yes. Both document capacity for 100 fingerprints, 100 passwords and 100 IC cards, and both offer the same four unlock methods plus the mechanical key. The credential decisions a household or project makes carry over unchanged from one model to the other.
Which model should a distributor stock first?
It depends on the doors your buyers actually sell into. Markets heavy on retrofit and mixed-material doors lean toward DS01’s wider material window; wood-and-metal markets leave the choice open. The freight difference is real but small — 18.4 kg versus 17.0 kg per 20-pc carton — so let the doors decide, not the pallet.
